Description

    This sculpture captures the journey from chaos to renewal. On the top of a jumble of shapes, a bird stands as a symbol of freedom for a new beginning. The mix of forms in the structure tells a hidden story of Beirut, inviting us to reflect on how art can help rebuild our sense of community and identity. lt's a reminder of the beauty that can emerge from  even the most challenging times.

    "reKUNSTruction":
    “True post-war recovery begins with the profound rebuilding of human consciousness and cultural identity through art”.

    When I think about post-war recovery, I'm drawn to Friedrich Nietzsche's idea of "amor fati", the love of fate. This concept is at the heart of "reKUNSTruction," my exhibition that will emphasize the importance of rebuilding human consciousness and cultural identity rather than just focusing on material reconstruction.
    Through this project, I delve into how art evolves from mere documentation to a powerful force for collective healing. By combining "KUNST" (the Dutch word for art) with the notion of reconstruction, I suggest that before we can rebuild our physical spaces, we must first mend our understanding of ourselves and our communities. These works challenge the traditional approach to post-war recovery, echoing Nietzsche's belief that chaos can lead to creation and destruction can give birth to new meaning. The paintings in this exhibition serve as visual reflections on psychological and social rehabilitation. They capture the delicate process of a society reconstructing its soul. The artwork suggests that healing starts in the unseen realm of shared memories, cultural bonds, and collective hopes. This exhibition invites viewers to interpret how in my art I can bridge the gap between trauma and transcendence, between what was lost and what can be reimagined.

    "reKUNSTruction" proposes that art becomes both a witness and a healer. It documents our journey while actively participating in our recovery, reminding us that true rebuilding begins within, in the careful reconstruction of the human spirit and community consciousness.
